BIOGRAPHY

We were blessed with the arrival of Trinity on the 13th of April 2004. Trinity come into the world two weeks late by emergency C-section. She was born with Respiratory Distress (Pneumonia) and Jaundice, and spent 7 days in intensive care. She was on a Ventilator, feeding tubes, phototherapy, and Drip.

Trinity was released from Hospital with the Doctors all clear. Relieved, we brought our precious little angel home. However, this was just a taste of what was to come in the months and years ahead.

When Trinity was 8 weeks old, I noticed she would cry every time there was loud or sudden noise, and never focused on me. A friend thought she may have lazy muscle's in her eye's and thought it could be easily fixed. I took Trinity to a local Doctor, who refered her to a Ophthalmologist at the Mater Childrens Hospital in Brisbane. After an MRI and further Examinations by the Specialists, our worst case scenario was confirmed. Trinity was Blind.

That night I cried 4 hours straight. I could feel my heart break. It was a grief greater than what I had ever felt before. I grieved for what Trinity had lost. She would never see a golden sunset or the stars or moon. She will never see my face.

As the months went by I learnt to accept it and move on.

The years to follow were spent in and out of hospitals. Visiting Ophthalmologists, Physio, OT and Speech Therapists and Pediatricians

Trinity's Development has been slow. Trinity learnt to roll over at 10 months, and sit unaided at 13 months. It wasn't until she was two and a half yrs old that she learnt to crawl, and say her first words. Trinity turns Four in April and is not able to walk independently. Trinity is still spoon feed pureed foods, as she has the gagging reflex of a 7 month old baby.

As Trinity has no light perception, she developed a sleeping disorder. Awake at night and sleeping most the day. Gradually sleeping less and less, and at 15 months old she would only sleep for 4 hours at one time. This caused her to be cranky and frustrated. When come meal times, she would refuse to eat or co-operate.

We now have regular visits to a sleeping clinic, and after many sleepless nights and persistence, Trinity now sleeps 6-8 hours on a good night.

As you can imagine most of my time and energy is devoted to Trinity, ensuring that she learns the skills required to cope with life's obstacles

Trinity's getting there slowly. She loves her puppy Mindy, music and Dancing with Mummy and her younger sister Mikayla. She loves to go to kindy which she attends 3 days a week.
