Biography
Seth was 24 hours old when a cardiologist from Townsville sat me down and told me my newborn baby was going to die and they were going to increase his morphine to make his death as peaceful and painless as possible.
I asked if there was surgeries available and because Seth was so severe he had only a 30% chance of surviving. I took the chance.
They told me every day that he was going to die and to be prepared, they made me organize his funeral. 9 hours in open heart surgery my 6 day old baby was still fighting to live. 4 weeks later they told me they couldn't believe I was taking my son home, not a box of ashes.
At 3 months old, he had a balloon dilation that was unsuccessful then at 6 months old had surgical coarctation repair. He beat the odds and lived through his 1st birthday!
At 13 months old he had the second stage surgery to redirect blood flow. That too was a long open heart procedure. For 5 years he deteriorated and had tricuspid artresia repair at 6yo.
Seth had 3rd stage fontan at 7yrs old last year and beat the odds by turning 8 in September last year ;) he had only a 20% chance to survive this long.
We still don’t know what the future holds, there is no cure for his condition, it is solely palliative care.
