      BIOGRAPHY

Sarah was born with the use of vacuum extraction. The vacuum cup came off and took a chunk of skin from her head. Sarah had substantial bruising to her head. On further examination, Sarah also had bruising on her legs and arms.
Sarah was not breathing when she was born. She also stopped breathing the following night, when she was trying to be breast feed. Nursing staff at the hospital revived Sarah and our local Paediatrician spend approximately 4 hours getting Sarah to a stable condition. Sarah was on 24 hour surveillance from this point.

Two more days later, Sarah stopped breathing again and was flown to Brisbane. Sarah spent four days in a humidicrib at the Gladstone Hospital in Queensland and another several weeks in one at the Royal Womens Hospital's Intensive Care Nursery. Sarah was released from hospital at the end of March 1999, after being diagnosed with PANHYPOPITUITARISM, SEPTO-OPTIC DYSPLASIA and HYPOGLYCAEMIA.

Part of Sarah's condition gives her a low immunity system, so whenever she gets a simple cold or flu, it can turn into a life threatening situation, with hospitalisation usually following. Sarah has also been admitted to hospital with Food Poisoning. In September 2005 we almost lost Sarah due to her having Chickenpox. Sarah's condition has alot of hidden parts to it, including complications/death if she breaks a bone or if she requires general anaesthetic.
Sarah is on two different types of tablet medication at the moment, but as she gets older will be introduced to more medication. Sarah also has daily injections of growth hormone, which she has been on since a couple of weeks after birth.

Due to the conditions that Sarah has, she may not be able to have children.

Sarah is seven years old now and is doing extremely well at school. Her teacher finds it amazing that Sarah does so well at school with the conditions that she has.

PANHYPOPITUITARISM - Pituitary Gland in the base of the brain that controls all your hormones. Sarah's doesn't function properly, so she is required to be on medication for life. Certain hormones in children are very important for their brain development, etc.

SEPTO-OPTIC DYSPLASIA - Sarah is blind in her left eye and has only partial vision in her right eye. If Sarah receives a hard enough hit to her right eye, she will become Blind.
