 BIOGRAPHY

Kymmie was born on the 23rd September 2006 at the Rockhampton
Mater Hospital. From the moment she was born we all knew something was
wrong. She never cried, never opened her eyes and was extremely floppy.
Kymmie stayed in the Special Card Nursery for 2 weeks and after a few
tests and X-rays our Paediatrician did a blood test for Prader Willi
Syndrome.
We took her home the next day. Prader-Willi Syndrome is a genetic
condition that affects the muscle tone, mental & physically development
of the child and as they grow, they develop an insatiable appetite as
the part of the brain that tells your body you are full, does not work.
Kymberley had a sleep study at 5 weeks of age and it was found she has
central sleep apnea. She went on oxygen immediately and we have not
looked back since, it made a remarkable difference. She was on the
oxygen 24/7 for a year. She is now only on it at night time and has
regular sleep studies.
We are extremely proud of her progress and adore our little girl to
pieces. She has just turned 2 and although she is not walking yet, she
is very clever in every way and an absolute joy to be around.
