BIOGRAPHY
Kieran was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis at 3 weeks of age, after being admitted to hospital due to significant weight loss and 'failure to thrive'. He spent almost 3 weeks in hospital undergoing tests and being introduced to the cocktail of medications he requires daily, now, and for the rest of his life.
Kieran takes up to 26 digestive enzyme capsules per day, just to absorb the fats and proteins in his food. He also has to take daily Antibiotics to ward off infection, high concentrate vitamins to keep him healthy and sodium supplements four times a day to keep his body hydrated. On top of all this Kieran must undergo two to three rounds of airway clearance physiotherapy daily, to help clear his lungs of the sticky mucus that hangs around in his lungs and causes them damage. For all intensive purposes Kieran will be infertile.
Due to the risk of germs and infections, Kieran is unable to attend playgroups or day-care, so does not get a lot of opportunity for social interaction.
Kieran enjoys playing with his two big brothers and his best friend is his pet bunny, who he loves to feed and cuddle. He is a very clever and cheeky little boy who also loves to make mischief. No matter how sick Kieran becomes he always manages to put on a smile that could light up a room.
