Kaitlyn  H ‘Butterflies & Flowers’

DATE OF BIRTH:    May 6th, 1999

ILLNESS:  Nephroblastoma, wilms tumour stage 2

                                                         BIOGRAPHY

Kaitlyn was born 6th May 1999.  She was born a healthy 3.4kg..she was a healthy chubby girl and                                                                   always ate well.                                                                 Then in october 2002 she was developing fevers which would last for about 5 days, I would take her to the doctor and he would ask if she goes to daycare (which she did) and then they
would send me home saying it was just a virus.....looking back now they were symptoms.          Then in early december 2002 she was screaming in pain so I took her to the GP and they gave her morphine and referred us to the childrens hospital, assuming it was appendicitus.  A routine ultrasound was done which revealed a 500gr tumour on her right kidney. A couple of days later the
tumour and kidney were removed and chemo was started.                      Kaitlyn did not handle chemo very well and we spent most of the six months at the
hospital...her liver got enlarged which was due to toxisity..called VOD. We finished the chemo in May 2003. Her hair grew back the same.
We have just had a recent checkup including x-rays and bloods and we are still all clear...we are                                                  currently 2 and a half years off treatment.                                          She is currently a very healthy, charming girl, who has a very soft nature which we think is due to her
experiences as a young child.  She is doing well and we pray and thank God everyday that she is still with us enjoying life, we pray we may have many more years ahead.
Thankyou for reading our experiences...
