BIOGRAPHY
Jacob was born with a low birth weight of 2.36kgs at Blacktown Hospital on the 18th of August 2002. It was a miracle he was alive as I suffered threatened miscarriage throughout the pregnancy and was in and out of hospital with bleeding and high BP. I was also told after a colonoscopy for a biopsy by my gynecologist, that I was pregnant although on the pill, and that I had cervical cancer.
Jacob was in and out of hospital from the day he was born, with his low birth weight, trouble breathing, asthma and excema. He stopped breathing many times whilst sleeping. He was not thriving so was put on polyjule thickener to help him put on weight. He suffered with leakage to both ears and many infections. Jacob was then re-admitted with whooping cough at only a few months old. We were told he had autistic characteristics. His fontanelle didn’t close as it should have and he had a very odd high and large forehead.
Jacob was also diagnosed with severe ADHD, ASD, ODD and OCD at only 2 and a half. It has been an extreme struggle with knowing how to help and Jacob having to adapt to preschool and other children. He is now in year 2 in a mainstream school where I live. I have repeatedly said to the school that he may need extra help to be accepted into a Special School to help with his social and learning difficulties. I was notified after an incident at the school that there would be an emergency panel to help Jacob and hopefully have placement for Jacob to start at the Special School early next year.
Jacob lives with his mum and his beautiful sister natasha who is 13 and helps jacob with all sorts of things. We as a family have been to upteen doctors and specialists in 8 years of Jacob’s life to find the right diagnosis and get help. Hopefully now we can get the help we need after waiting so long and Jacob can live a more easy, stress free life with more love and understanding from all those around him.
I love my boy Jacob and he is so special to us.
