BIOGRAPHY

Indigo was born at home, in the birth pool and caught by her Daddy. When she was about 12 hours old we noticed she was struggling to breathe so we took her into the local hospital. She was admitted to special care and on oxygen for 3 days so I couldn't even cuddle my precious newborn.
By the time she was 24 hours old she had a naso-gastric tube put in as she wasn't feeding. The doctors thought once she got a bit stronger she would start to feed on her own but almost 5 months later she still doesn't feed.
When she was in special care she was being fed expressed breast milk but was always very unsettled, screaming all the time and losing lots of weight. Extensive blood tests showed she has Idiopathic Hypercalcemia. Her body can not process calcium properly so she can only have prescription formula or she can end up with damage to her internal organs and be in immense pain all the time. They say if her condition is not managed very carefully people can actually end up going crazy because of the constant pain.
Indigo has a gorgeous 2 year old brother so it's very tough trying to give him enough attention when she takes up so much of her time. We are waiting for surgery so she can be PEG fed and also seeing the genetics team at the Children's hospital as she has a micro-duplication on one of her chromosomes but we are unsure what that will mean for her developmentally. All tests so far are unable to give us any answers as to why she can't/wont feed.
