BIOGRAPHY
We were excited that Hannah was finally here. Although Hannah was born with Down Syndrome (Trisomy 21) we were not fazed by this at all. Even though it was hard going in the first three months of her life with all her health issues.
These being: Prematurity (32 weeks), Low birth weight (1760gms), Severe respiratory distress, Bilateral Pneumothoraces (collapsed lungs), Downs Syndrome (Trisomy 21), Atrial Ventricular Septal Defect (AVSD), Hypothyroidism, Jaundice, Sleep Apnea, Feeding difficulty/Mic-key button.
Hannah had her heart surgery when she was 5 months which went quite well. We have just seen her heart specialist who has said to us that Hannah does not require any further surgery at this point in time, which is an answer to prayer.
Hannah is usually in and out of hospital, with bouts of Bronchiolitis, and other infections. Hannah is prone to picking up lots of infections because her immune system is usually lower than a ‘normal child’.
One of the major signs of Down Syndrome is low muscle tone and as a result her milestones are delayed.
Hannah is now sitting up on her own and can come from a lying position into a sitting position without help. this has been a long time coming and we are thrilled with each milestone that she achieves.
