BIOGRAPHY
Georgia was born perfect. Then at 10 weeks of age started to have seizures. Over the next few months the seizures worsened.
Medications were increased or changed. Nothing was working. At 6 months of age, she had an MRI which showed Pachagyria - a malformation of the brain. The doctor said she would be developmentally delayed. We didn't know exactly what was in store for us but over the next couple of years, realised how hard it was going to be.
Georgia did not develop any skills. She became my little floppy doll.
She even stopped smiling. Of course, by this time, we knew it was something more. We then discovered she had Cerebral Palsy.
Life has been challenging. Georgia has had nearly 40 hospital admissions to date (about 25 of those for pneumonia). She has never walked and is wheelchair bound. She has never talked. Over the past 3 years, she has developed a severe scoliosis, and due to her pneumonia's now has chronic lung disease. We did have the option of corrective surgery on her spine, but her doctors feel that she is too 'delicate' to undergo such an operation. Last year, Georgia had stomach surgery - a fundoplication and pyloroplasty - as her stomach ceased to function. She is now full time tube fed. Her seizures remain uncontrolled. We don't know what the future holds.
Georgia depends on us for all aspects of her daily care. Her job is to sit and look beautiful - and she does it well! We just do our best every day to keep her happy and comfortable. And when we get one of her rare smiles - its better than winning the lottery.
