~ Thank You Message ~

Dear Quilts4Kids

We received Connors quilt yesterday, and all I can say is a HUGE thank you! It is fantastic! Connor loves all the colours and crawls around on it on the floor looking at all the trucks and cars!

Connor is doing really well now, 8 months old already. He pulled through his 10 hour open heart surgery very well, and we were home to Tasmania within 12 days! We have since been back to Melbourne a number of times for scans and check up’s, however, in August we were told we can stay home and see the Cardiologists (from Melbourne) when they come to Tasmania every 3 – 4 months. There is a chance that he will need further surgery, but not for a number of years. They will keep monitoring his condition every check up.

He is crawling, and standing up to everything. He is a very happy energetic little boy, whose smile and cheekiness lights up our world!

Thank you again... you will be remembered every time we look at the quilt!

With Love,

Raoul, Demi and Connor

BIOGRAPHY

Connor was diagnosed with this rare condition at his mothers 20 week scan.  The synographer picked up on the scan that his heart was not functioning correctly. After numerous scans / and trips to heart specialists in Melbourne, his parents had to go live over in Melbourne to deliver baby Connor.

Connor was born a healthy weight, and size, but was immediately put on a ventilator and a small procedure done via the groin to keep the hole in his heart open to allow his blood to mix, to give his little body oxygen.  After a month in Melbourne the proud parents were able to take Connor home, under strict monitoring and regular flights back to Melbourne for scans and checks to make sure his CO2 levels were not rising. He also had thickening of a arterial wall which they needed to keep an eye on to make sure it was not restricting blood flow.

He was then scheduled for his MAJOR open heart surgery on the 6th of May.  He has just come out of ICU and is currently in a ward at Royal Children’s hospital in Melbourne where they are caring for him.  The surgery was successful, but he will be requiring further surgery as he grows up, with constant monitoring.  He is our little champion and fighter xx
