Thank You Message

We received Baxter’s quilt on Thursday, and from the minute he saw it he was fascinated. He is spending a lot of time inspecting each of the squares and gets quite upset if the quilt is not spread out on the floor. When I first opened the package I had a good cry thinking about all the work that went into the quilt for Baxter.

Thank you so much for all the hours that you spent thinking about him while you were working on the squares. It means so much to our family to have so many great people barracking for Baxter and supporting our family.

Baxter is now in remission and we have been home since the 31st of May. He is going for monthly checkups at the hospital which so far he has passed with flying colours. He still has his naso-gastric tube for some extra feeds overnight and his medicines, but we are hoping to ditch that in another month or two. Otherwise he is a very happy, healthy and boisterous little boy.

Thank you also for the lovely books which he and his sister are enjoying also. I am sure that one day he will truly appreciate the meaning behind receiving his very special quilt, as we already do.

Yours sincerely

Noni + Tony (Baxter’s mum and dad)

                                BIOGRAPHY

Baxter was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia (AML) just before christmas. He had become very ill and doctors were unable to find the cause. When a blood test was done, the AML was found straight away and we relocated to Brisbane, within an hour.

His leukaemia is an unusual one for children to have. His treatment protocol consists of 6 months of intense chemotherapy.

He is now in remission and hopefully will stay that way. If the cancer returns, he will need a bone marrow transplant.

He is generally coping very well, however his treatment has been a real roller coaster ride. We have spent a lot of time in hospital. So far he has spent his first xmas, his first birthday, new years, and this easter in hospital.

Baxter is a great kid and never ceases to amaze me, with his strength and determination to beat his cancer.
